You want a few words that target the audience (brand/product name) and something to bait them into opening the newsletter (“special offers”)

It entirely depends on the audience and what I’m writing, but I’d agree with your friend: it’s easier to read “you’re” and “we’ll” etc, just as it’s easier to say them.

These days, I find that the long forms tend to sound a little stuffy, and will generally revert to the elisions unless it’s a very formal / corporate piece.
